About me
I am an experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor. I work with adults and young people (10+), and am guided by a humanistic approach to my work. I am trained in person-centred therapy, emotion-focused therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. I teach humanistic therapies in a university to counselling psychology trainees, and I am also a psychological researcher.
I have worked in voluntary organisations and private practice for over 10 years. In my most recent role I ran a university research clinic, working with young adult clients and supervising psychologists working in the clinic.
Testimonials
Being completely new to therapy, I initially contacted Dr Jacqueline Hayes around 8 months ago during a particularly overwhelming period and I was entirely unsure what to expect. I couldn’t have hoped for a more enlightening introduction to therapy. I have no doubt that Jacqueline’s support has enabled me to think more positively, clearly and proactively about everyday challenges which would have seemed much more daunting before.

I contacted Jacqueline at a time in my life when I was at a real low following a breakdown in the relationship between my partner and I. Jacqueline was a sympathetic and understanding voice who listened to my problems and provided understanding and compassion. Without the counselling I received from Jacqueline I do not believe that I would have been able to recover from my depression and move forward with my life, certainly not within a relatively short time period of four months.

A while ago I was made redundant and became very anxious and moderately depressed. Throughout the difficult times I have found Jac tremendously supportive, a good listener, full of good ideas and I leave every session feeling loads better and positive to get on with my life and fulfil my dream.

The experience of seeing Jac was unimaginably positive. It is easy to underestimate how much one person can help you turn your life around by seeing them for an hour a week.
As two women in a civil partnership, it was important for us to see a counsellor who neither had an issue with our sexuality nor was naive enough to assume our relationship would be the same as a heterosexual one. Jac is an intelligent counsellor who can follow and understand the complex and often politically volatile situations within relationships without expressing a bias towards one individual.
